The Blind Side

Last week I saw a motion movie called “The Blind Side” the featuring award-winning actress, Sandra Bullock. The movie depicts the story of Michael Oher, an All American offensive left tackle. The protagonist turns out to be a priceless combination of size, speed, and agility necessary to guard a quarterback's greatest vulnerability, his blind side.

If we take that last sentence and use it in the context of web application security, we get something like this - to be able to defend your application, you have to:
• Monitor all the traffic coming in and out of your application, and detect any malicious attacks on application i.e. you need size.
• Be able stop the malicious attack before it reaches the web application - speed.
• Respond quickly to new threats to the application – agility.

Web applications are still considered the blind side of IT. Web application accessibility, rapid growth of the usage of web application services and the variety of web application technologies all increase the exposure to security threats. An advanced WAF with the right combination of size, speed and agility could be just what you need to keep your back covered!
